As of today, Raven is working steadily along towards her 7,000 word goal at the NaNoWriMo Young Writers Program.
She is currently at 1,661 words!
I am proud to be able to share with you an excerpt from her work.
Keep in mind- none of it has been edited, at all. The point of NaNoWriMo is to get your ideas down onto paper. Editing for style and grammar happens later depending on whether you want to publish your work or just keep it for your personal enjoyment.
Her work is about a unicorn, named Celia, that travels outside her herd and comes across a whole new world.
On the warm summer day there was a warm crispy breeze in the air. Fall was coming soon and the leaves where just turning red and orange that was such a site for Celia. Celia was a unicorn she was bright red and had white hooves and had lived in uni valley her whole life. Celia was at lest two years old and she had a feeling that it was time. She liked to talk to her self cause the kids tease her so she stays at the boring side of the valley. That’s when she said, “i going to leave the pack and go explore the world” so she told the group. They where not happy they said, “no this is the best place no one has ever done that you must stay here and see to getting in school” Celia said, “no i will not listen to you i am young and have done nothing with my life now I’m am going” they ignored her.
She set off for the journey but her mom stopped her. Her mom was a skinny, black, shiny, and a nice uni and she was at lest five years old . She said, “no please do not go i will miss you i love you so much and you know your father did too don’t do what he did please” she thought about her father. Her father was a young and was seven years old he was orange and had black hooves his name was Gordon her moms name is Mary they met and had Celia. Her dad had gone and done what she was going to do she thought of her dad as a hero but he never came back.
Celia said, “mom i have to I’m going to find dad and explore with him and come back and tell the herd it is safe to go out into the world and discover new things i want to prove them wrong so they know that we can leave and make are own herd” her mother was speechless she love her daughter and she wanted Gordon back.Mary said, “um okay go go find your father but come right back i want to see him please” so Celia set off to find her father. Ever one didn’t care any more but her mother she was crying in the grass laying there like a frozen popsicle.
Pretty creative huh?
It has been fun to watch her even when she isn’t writing. Celia, the unicorn, is coming alive through her everyday interactions. She finds ideas for her writing and gets so excited to tell me what she is thinking about adding.
I love seeing her have a passion for writing and for finishing her goal. The NaNoWriMo site has been a great tool that she uses to see how far she has gone, how far she need needs to go, and what her current stats are.
She has been keeping up with the daily word counts so hopefully 7,000 words will be a manageable goal for her this year.
Let Raven and I know what you think of her work! Leave a comment below or share this post!
